Message From the President - January 2010:
January is an exciting time for the TCEE office as we honor the Texas regional Stock Market Game (SMG) winners. Earlier this month, I enjoyed listening to Craig Weems' state first place high school team, Cedar Park High School in Leander ISD, explain their winning strategies. Then, I marveled at the economic and math lessons learned and described by Shannan Hall's 4th grade students at Round Rock ISD's Caraway Elementary School. Throughout Texas, the SMG winning teams and their teachers are honored every January and May. I applaud all teachers, principals and districts who utilize the Stock Market Game to teach investment principles as well as math skills.
My hat is off to TCEE staff members Debbie Mackey/ Stock Market Game coordinator, Sheree Gilbert/Program Assistant, and Joe Garcia/Program Director, for the mountain of statistics and information they compile and organize to make the competition and recognition work! We are also very thankful for the corporations that financially support the team registrations and awards.
Our trips throughout the state to recognize the SMG winners bring to mind the various methods of transportation we all utilize on a daily basis. This winter, in particular, we are mindful of the extra travel and transportation precautions needed due to the rainy weather and arctic chill that have moved through Texas. During our two week winter break, many families enjoyed touring and traveling together. All of this brings to mind how devoted our daily lives are to the theme of the
February 26 Economics Extravaganza: Transportation, Travel and Tourism. The Texas Council on Economic Education invites all high school social studies, economics, Career/Technology, and math teachers to attend at the beautiful Botanic Garden in Fort Worth.
TCEE wishes for you a successful second semester filled with lessons relevant to the lives of our students! We hope to see you February 26 in Fort Worth.
Sincerely,
Laura Ewing, President
