Our Mission
The Texas Council on Economic Education (TCEE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering economic and financial literacy among Texas students. Our mission is to ensure that young people across North Texas and the state develop an economic way of thinking and problem-solving that is essential for making informed, prudent choices in a complex global economy.
We are committed to preparing students to become:
- Knowledgeable Consumers
- Prudent Savers and Investors
- Responsible Citizens
- Successful Members of the Workforce
Who We Are
Founded in 1969, the TCEE has been the leading champion for K-12 economic and financial education in Texas for over five decades. We are the official Texas affiliate of the national Council for Economic Education (CEE), and we work through a statewide network of university-based centers where economics professors and educators collaborate to deliver high-quality programs.
Our Approach: The Education Multiplier Effect
At the TCEE, we believe that the most effective way to reach hundreds of thousands of students is by empowering the educators who teach them. We focus on a strategic approach known as the education multiplier effect:
We provide training, resources, and confidence to public school teachers across Texas, from Kindergarten through 12th grade, allowing them to integrate essential concepts of economics, entrepreneurship, and personal finance into virtually any subject area. By investing in a teacher, we positively impact hundreds of students year after year.
Our Core Programs
The TCEE sponsors and manages rigorous, hands-on programs designed to bring real-world economic and financial concepts to life for both students and teachers.
For Students:
- The Stock Market Game™: An immersive educational simulation where students in grades 4–12 manage a virtual investment portfolio, learning key principles of investment, research, and teamwork.
- The Economics Challenge (SM): A high-level competition that recognizes exceptional high school students for their deep knowledge of economic principles and their ability to apply critical-thinking skills to current events.
- The Personal Finance Challenge (SM): A state and national competition where middle and high school students demonstrate their personal finance acumen on topics like budgeting, credit, savings, and investing.
For Teachers:
- Professional Staff Development Training Workshops: We provide educators with professional development workshops that offer content, curriculum, and resources to effectively teach economic and financial literacy in their classrooms. These trainings are often offered in partnership with our university centers.
Through these programs, the TCEE ensures that Texas students gain the foundational knowledge required to achieve economic security and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
